In the ocassion of the effort to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Ionian Islands, the Museum of the Ionian University aims to form a museum collection of ethnographic and folklore character with objects related to the local history and tradition of this particular region. The impact of this project has resulted in the attraction of collectors who have accepted this approach and donated items and relics from their collections to the museum. The aim of the new collection is to become a source of research into the identity of the Ionian countryside and at the same time a reference point for the preservation and promotion of the local history of the Ionian Islands.
