The celebrations began on 9 May 2022, with the round-table discussion "The Power of Museums", held online and co-organised by the Greek section of the International Council of Museums with the participation of speakers from the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Kazantzakis Museum, and the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation.
On Wednesday 18 May 2022, on the day of International Museum Day, Kontokali Primary School discovered the power of museums by participating in the educational program "We the Printers".
The participatory project MOSAIC, was presented to the general public at an event held at Polytechno, on Thursday 19 May 2022. The project was created following a call from the Museum to the local community to co-create a "map" of the island that will synthesize the different aspects and perceptions of its identity, as perceived by the people who live on it.
The actions for the International Museum Day were completed with the three-day events of the Ionian Islands Museums Network (I.I.M.N), between 25-27 May 2022. At the invitation of the Museum of the Ionian University and with the support of the Region of the Ionian Islands and the Community Cooperative of Corfu "New Horizons", the representatives of the museum institutions of the I.I.M.N attended and participated in Corfu in open events aimed at involving the public of Corfu in the cultural developments of the Ionian Islands.
All of the above were successfully achieved mainly due to public participation and the activation of the local community, two factors on which the operation of the University Museum is based. The Director and the Committee of the Museum Collections of the Ionian University express their sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the planning and successful implementation of the International Museum Day 2022, especially the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Archives, Library Science & Museology of the Ionian University.
