The Ionian University Museology Group was established in 2015, an initiative of Stavros Vlizos, Associate Professor of the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology, with the active participation of undergraduate students. Its beginnings may be traced to the celebration of International Museum Day on May 18, 2015, during which there were coordinated events in Corfu’s museums for the first time. Today, both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Ionian University enthusiastically support the Museum, applying in practice theoretical tenets of Museology. These participating students aim to promote the museum as an institution, and to further strengthen the collaboration between the Ionian University and Corfu’s various museums, through diverse activities and events throughout the year. In this setting, most actions are organized in collaboration with other bodies and institutions, for the benefit of the local community and, across age groups.
